Drivers report cracked windshields when traveling from same section of highway

“Several drivers are reporting cracks in their windshield after going through the same spot on Interstate 80 in the Roseville area of Placer County.

Stephanie Barber is one of them. She said it happened to her on westbound I-80 near Taylor Road on Sunday morning, less than 24 hours after she bought a brand-new car.

“Immediately when I got on the freeway, I heard a crack,” she said.

She was frustrated because she knew she was not the only one. After posting about it to a neighborhood group on Facebook, her neighbors shared similar experiences.

One after the other, people chimed in about damage to their car recently in the exact same spot. Some of them reported it to the California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans.”

Transportation officials are speculating that surface changes on the highway due to weather changes could be causing cracks and debris in the road. This would ultimately lead to small pieces of debris being kicked up by passing ties and flung into nearby windshields.
